How VATloop compares
We solve one thing: the quarterly VAT submission. If you need full bookkeeping, you'll be better served by Xero or QuickBooks. If you only need the VAT bridge, this is the cheapest honest way to do it.

Pricing questions
What's the catch on the 6-month beta? ▾
No catch. We're targeting 5-10 design-partner merchants to use VATloop free for 6 months in exchange for honest product feedback (a 15-min call after each of your first 2-3 submissions). After the 6 months, you continue at £19/month or cancel — your call.
What if I have multiple Shopify stores? ▾
£19/month per store. Each store has its own HMRC connection, its own VRN, its own submission history. A consolidated multi-store tier is on the roadmap; talk to us if it would unblock you.
What if I'm not VAT-registered yet? ▾
VATloop is only useful once you're VAT-registered with HMRC (UK threshold is £90,000 turnover as of April 2024). If you're not there yet, save the £19/month — we'll still be here when you cross the threshold.
What if my turnover drops below £90k? ▾
You can de-register from VAT with HMRC if your turnover stays under £88,000 for the trailing 12 months (the de-registration threshold sits below the registration one). At that point you'd cancel VATloop — no penalty, no remaining contract.
Can I get an invoice in my company name? ▾
Yes. Shopify generates the invoice for the recurring app charge under your Shopify Partner billing account — it carries your company name and VAT details as registered with Shopify. You can download past invoices from Shopify admin → Settings → Billing.
Do you offer annual billing or a discount? ▾
Not at v1. Shopify's billing API supports both monthly and annual recurring charges; we may add an annual tier with a discount once we have enough beta-merchant feedback to know what's fair. The 6-month free beta is the only "discount" right now.
What happens if VATloop shuts down? ▾
We'd give you at least 60 days' notice in writing, export your submission history to a portable format, and prorate any unused subscription back. Your VAT submissions live on HMRC's side regardless of our status — uninstalling VATloop doesn't undo a submission you've already made.
I already pay an accountant — should I bother? ▾
Many of the beta merchants we've spoken to keep their accountant for year-end and use VATloop for quarterly VAT only — the £20/month VAT-only line on the accountant invoice goes away. If your accountant fee is a flat package that doesn't itemise VAT separately, the savings may be smaller; talk to your accountant about what comes out of the package if VAT moves to a Shopify-native tool.
